Faye Wong and Nicholas Tse spotted in Japan

It has been three years since Faye Wong and Nicholas Tse got back together after their breakup in 2002. The couple have always maintained a low profile and avoided the spotlight, but were recently seen together at an airport in Japan last Thursday (Aug 24).The couple kept to themselves and blended in with the crowd. Nicholas was clad in a simple white hat, a denim jacket over a plain t-shirt and carrying a yellow backpack while Faye opted for a loose grey t-shirt and jeans, paired with sunglasses. It was speculated that the reason the couple took this trip to Japan was to celebrate the Chinese Valentine’s day which happens today (Aug 28) and coincides with Nicholas’s 37th birthday the following day (Aug 29). On-lookers noticed that they were not behaving intimately and even kept a distance from one another when queuing, both busy on their phones. Their behaviour here was the complete opposite as to when they were previously photographed at an airport in February this year,...

Are You Ready to Get a Car Loan in Singapore?

MAS just eased restrictions on car loans. But before you run out and get a loan, check your credit score and make these preparations. For most Singaporeans, a car is a sign of success, especially since Singapore is one of the most expensive places in the world to own a car. Even a modest family sedan can cost upward of S$110,000 today, which would pay for about 30 per cent of a three-room flat. Unsurprisingly, almost everyone who owns a car has had to take a loan to do so. While you may technically qualify for such a loan, consider the following before accepting such a huge debt burden. Car Loans are Less Restrictive in 2016 The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has eased curbs on car loans. Prior to this, the maximum loan quantum (the total amount that can be borrowed) was 60 per cent of the purchase price, if the Open Market Value (OMV) of the car was S$20,000 or less. Otherwise, the maximum loan was 50 per cent of the OMV. Under the new regulations, the lo...

Finding a car loan with a low interest rate can save thousands of dollars. So we put together this guide on how to get the best auto loan rates online. When it comes to buying a car, way too many Americans are likely to just get a loan from a dealer. But just because you have to finance your car doesn’t mean you should go with whatever the dealer offers. As with other types of financing, it’s a good idea to shop around for a car loan. Luckily, the internet makes that easier than ever! Here, we’re going to give you the down and dirty on wher...

Employment shrank, but Straits Times says job prospects improving?

Since employment shrank by 258,700 in the last 12 months – how can “overall job prospects  may  be improving”? I refer to the article “Q3 labour report shows rise in job seekers unemployed for 25 weeks or more” (Straits Times, Dec 13). It states that “Overall job prospects may be improving, but a small – though growing – group of residents is being left in the lurch. These job-seekers are finding it hard to find new positions even after being unemployed for 25 weeks or more, the latest labour report released  on Wednesday  (Dec 13) showed. Observers said that ongoing restructuring continues to pose a challenge, as flagged in the labour report for the third quarter of 2017, even though the cyclical recovery in the economy has lifted job prospects. DBS economist Irvin Seah said that the upward trend in the long-term unemployment rate for Singaporean and permanent residents in the past two years is a matter of concern. It rose to 0.8 p...

4G leaders to set the agenda, prepare manifesto for next GE: PM Lee

The People’s Action Party’s (PAP) fourth generation leaders will “very much be in the thick of things” come the next General Election (GE), Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong told the Singapore media on Saturday (Dec 1) at the end of his five-day visit to Argentina where he attended the G20 Leaders’ Summit. While Mr Lee will lead the PAP as its secretary-general into the election — which must be held by early 2021 — the 4G leaders will be “taking the lead in the sense of setting the agenda, working out the policies, preparing the manifesto, making the pitch to the public, and actively campaigning during the election and organising the election”. He added that the ruling party will be going into the GE “with a team which has depth”. “It’s not just the present leaders, who are in their late 50s, early 60s – but also the next generation of leaders, 40s, 50s, ready to take over,” he said. “I think that’s a very strong message, which goes beyond any specific policies and mani...
